A fellowship of women who enjoy getting together monthly for lunch and informative programs, entertainment, or outings. Community service is also on their agenda for projects such as cooking dinner for Interfaith Hospitality Network or helping prepare a room for a resident at the Brighton Recovery Center. The group decides what they want to do each month and set their calendar for the year. There's always a summer picnic with a break in August. Everyone brings their lunch with two people designated each month as hostesses who bring desserts to share. The group collects money each month for their treasury and a "love fund" which is used to do something nice for someone else. The group meets on the first Tuesday of the month from 11:30 until the program and lunch are over. All are welcome! Call Betty Weidinger at 859-441-7136 for more information.
The Prayer Chain is the Christ Church ministry of intercessory prayer. Requests for prayer are usually received through the church office or from the yellow cards found in the Sunday bulletin. These individual names are brought to the attention of the Prayer Chain and then telephone calls begin to pass along the requests. The names are also posted in the next bulletin, so in addition to the immediate prayers of the Prayer Chain members, there is ongoing prayer from the congregation.
There are two chains - one that makes calls in the daytime and the other in the evening. The Prayer Chain usually receives 90-100 requests for prayer per year. Anyone who would like to join this ministry may do so by calling Bonnie Hitch (441-4423).
Busam Buddies is the group of people who trace the hands of members of Christ Church and produce the small blankets to be distributed by either the pastor or a fellow member.
Busam Buddies began in 2004 as an extension of the Prayer Chain Ministry of Christ Church. The official name of the project is "Project Praying Hands in Loving Memory of David Busam". David was a young husband and father and member of Christ Church. He had a serious lung disease and was the inspiration for this project, which was to provide a symbolic laying on of hands to those in need of healing and prayer. Unfortunately, David died before he received a blanket, and the first one was given to his wife and children. Distribution of blankets was begun in early 2005; and to this date 82 blankets have been given to members and friends of Christ Church. The feedback from those who receive the blankets is very positive and inspirational. The ministry has expanded and includes giving blankets to infants during the Baptism service, and to former pastors of Christ Church to symbolize continuing prayers of the congregation.
If you would like to participate in this project, watch for scheduled days for the following: tracing your hand on fabric in the Narthex or Sunday School, attending a work day where the hands and fabric are cut and prepared for sewing, or sewing hands on to the blanket. Watch the church bulletin for work days. For more information, call Bonnie Hitch at 859-441-4423.
The purpose of the group is to provide a comfortable setting for sharing and support to anyone who has experienced the death of a loved one by suicide. The group is open to parents, siblings, relatives, friends, or a spouse. There is no charge. The Survivors of Suicide group meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in Hoffman Hall. Call Ken or Carol Himes (859) 441-1958 for more information.
This group is associated with Hospice of the Bluegrass of Northern Kentucky, whose office is located in Florence, KY. A group of volunteers, often people who have had a loved one cared for by Hospice, meet at Christ Church weekly to make useful items for hospice patients, adults and children, who are in their homes and hospitals. Volunteers make anything the patients can use from pillows, Hospice Bears, walker and wheelchair bags, to lap quilts, afgans, hospital gowns, covers for heating pads, and holiday crafts. If you would like to help, call Kathy Hein at 859-468-6409. The group meets Thursdays, from 1:00-4:00. They are always looking for donations of cotton material, yarn, and stuffing. If you have any of these items, please drop them off at the church office.
Blood pressure screenings are available after church the first Sunday of each month.
