Community Service

The Board of Community Services offers many opportunities for involvement in the community.

Check our Outreach page for up-to-the-minute details on the latest opportunities.

Background on some of our community service projects:

Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) - Once every 9 weeks or so, Christ Church hosts homeless families who stay overnight in the church for a week.  All volunteer opportunities are on display in the Narthex the week before our rotation.  You can sign up to drive the van, cook a meal, be a host to families, spend the night, or do some laundry once everyone leaves.  Each year at Christmas time, Christ Church members volunteer to help wrap Christmas presents at the Florence Mall.  This raises money for IHN and gets everyone in the holiday spirit!

We are currently in need of additional blankets (new or used).  Please put any blankets you are willing to donate in the IHN closet in the Educational Building.  Thanks for your help!

Henry Hosea House - Members work as a team to serve a meal to homeless and needy families in Newport, KY.

Brighton Center - Volunteers can help sort clothes for Brighton Center's clothing closet.  This effort helps the Center provide clothes to families in need.  Again, watch the bulletin.  Each year in September, the congregation adopts Brighton Center's food pantry.  We ask for donations of non-perishable food items for the Center's emergency assistance program such as canned meats, pasta and sauces, soups, crackers, cereal, and peanut butter.  Finally, each year the Jesse Tree goes up after Thanksgiving and tags are available with a gift idea for a child.  You choose the tag you'd like to purchase, bring the item in and Brighton Center will distribute the items to the children.  We've also added items for families who have been in IHN as well.

Christmas in July (Washington, UCC) - Christ Church partners with a sister UCC church to help low-income families prepare their children for school.  In past years we've collected backpacks, personal care items, and school supplies.

The Board of Community Service also supports the Washington, UCC's Kids Cafe with volunteers to serve a meal to children periodically.  Volunteers arrive at 4:45 p.m. that evening and assist with preparing, serving, and cleaning up after the meal.  Watch for times that volunteers are needed at the church (2950 Sidney Avenue in Cincinnati).

Please consider purchasing diapers for the Isaiah Project in Newport.  A box will be available in the Narthex to collect all donations.

You are invited to help out with any or all of these opportunities in our community.
